Why Don't We Rent Movies Anymore?

Four people enjoying a movie…a perfect way to spend an evening in together, right? Unless…

Two like anything with robots in it; two are unconvinced.

Three like action-adventure; one thinks lots of stuff getting blown up looks the same in every movie.

Two wouldn’t mind seeing a grownup movie once in a while, but two no longer go to bed by 8 pm.

Four still appreciate a good Disney classic; at least two probably don't want to admit it.

Three like the occasional spooky movie; one gets nightmares.

Two never ever tire of Spongebob; two think Spongebob’s appeal wanes after the first hundred showings.

One wouldn’t mind checking out a British drama, three scatter like cockroaches caught in the light at the mere mention of anything Victorian.

At least one is sound asleep on the couch by 9:02 no matter what movie is playing.

One is not quite ready for everything labeled PG-13.

Two enjoy an occasional chick flick; two would rather slice onions with a dull knife than watch anything to do with weddings or shoe shopping.

One thinks he/she is grownup enough to see something; two think he/she is sadly mistaken, and the other one says ha-ha, you don’t get to watch it either.

Two protest but all my friends have seen it; two say, I don’t care what other parents let their kids do, you’re still not watching it.

Four agree that musicals are slightly ridiculous.

This weekend we finally settled on Prince Caspian. Two saw the whole movie, one was sound asleep before the kids even left the train station, and one took a short nap somewhere in Narnia. Not a bad showing, for us anyway.

Ah, movies are still just an adults only event around here. The child is way too little to sit through anything beyond Bee Movie. We didn't even take him to see Coraline, because the trailer "freaks me out, mom."
Plus, me & mister don't mind driving an hour or more to one of the big huge cities nearby to catch a film if it's only playing at a tiny little art house.

LOL! I just love the way you describe things. That's just the way families go, I suppose. :0)

I loved Prince Caspian! And yes, most of our movies we watch are officially kid movies. At least the kids like things like The Mummy.

Laughing here…
This was too cute…

I am just amazed by the number of movies I did not see in the 90’s
because 8 o’clock bedtime no longer existed.
The only good thing about my kids growing up is that I get to watch anything
I want to….even the ones with the subtitles.

Oh dear, it sounds like you're really straddling the audience preferences. Talk about picky--I hope it's not as tough to order pizza at your house!

Ha! Sounds like if you can get a consensus on a movie in your house, maybe you should try getting everyone in washington to agree on a plan to bolster the economy!

When my girl was just a wee one she was scared out of her wits by the original Godzilla movie. We had to stop it and finish watching when she was asleep.

That's hilarious! The majority of movies we watch are kids movies. My hubby is a night owl so he watches all kinds of movies when we are all asleep!

LOL...I remember these days! Now if Hubs and I can't start the movie before 6 p.m., we both fall asleep before its over...grin...

Lily - You'll be amazed at the stages you go through. I like animation, but I'm happy to be able to watch movies with real people in them again.

Christy - Well, at least we're doing somthing together, even if a good part of it's arguing :-D

PJ - Prince Caspian was great! And I don't think I've ever seen The Mummy, now that you mention it...maybe I'll suggest it for next time :)

Louise - I know one of these days I'll have the chance to catch up...and I'll probably still rent the kid movies, too.

Green Girl - Good thing we're all pepperoni lovers!

ICQB - It's funny what will set them off - my daughter was okay with things like Ursula from The Little Mermaid, but Donald Duck really creeped her out.

Kelly - I wish I could stay up late like that - I usually regret it the next day when I try!

Brenda - I recently watched a movie while the kids were at school, cause I knew it was the only chance I'd get :)

So true. I love horror - husband hates it. He loves action - I hate it.
I love comedy - oh, wait. . . so does he.

Gotta go rent a movie ;-) thanks for the idea.

This is SO funny! I can see families every where going through this same routine. I suppose it could make a parent yearn for the days when there were only three channels available and one movie theater showing the latest Western.

Great descriptions! Slicing dull onions, scattering like cockroaches, and the part about being sadly mistaken.

Perhaps you guys might have better luck with board games? ; )

Kim - I hope you can agree on what's funny :D

Bish - No kidding - sometimes too many choices does not help!

Suzanne - Good call on the game! We still all have fun with one called Imaginiif :)

I LOVED the 'scattered like cockroaches' line too, and all your other descriptions. And we've got all these issues too: my husband loves aliens getting blasted to bits; my kids like thrillers and adventure films; I yearn to see something that is intelligent and sophisticated.

And just wait until you next go on vacation. Nothing like a family for learning negotiation and compromise...

Oh gosh, isn't this the absolute truth? We're a family of 6 and deal with this a lot too. I even deal with it with just my husband when we're trying to decide on a movie. We end up watching some old one that we've seen a bunch of times.

Mary - It's been so long since we've had a real vacation - we might all be happy enough just to be someplace new! But try to agree on a Sunday outing - now that takes negotiation!

Rena - That sounds familiar...I don't know how many times we've ended up dragging some old video from the back of the closet :D
