I'm Not Indecisive, I Just Don't Know What I Want

I have this problem. A good sort of problem. I decided to cash in some reward points I’ve had sitting around. We hardly ever use a credit card, and I figured the rewards weren’t going to get any better. So I settled on four $50 Target gift cards. I gave one to each of the kids, spent one on a couple of things we needed for the house (after my husband declined to take one), and saved one for myself. I vowed not to fritter it away on stuff I’d get around to buying anyway, like shampoo and toilet bowl cleaner. I wanted to get something I ordinarily wouldn’t buy for myself.

That was months ago. It’s still sitting in my wallet, along with a Starbuck’s card that has $11 left on it, a $25 card to some coffee place I’ve never heard of, and a gift certificate for a spa pedicure that I’ve had since Christmas. Clearly I need some remedial help when it comes to splurging.

So I’m wondering…what sort of things do you treat yourself to?

I'm weak when it comes to my garden--new plants, flowers, pots, etc. And I love to buy books. Good chocolate is always nice too:)

BOOKS!!!!! They have a fairly decent book section at Target. Then there's always the sinfully fun chic flics they sell, or make up, skin cream, gadgets for the kitchen, expensive pasta sauces I'd not ordinarily try and squeeze into the grocery bill, gourmet chocolate. Okay, maybe I should stop. I'm mentally roaming the aisles at Target trying to decide what would be most intoxicating or can't live without must buy!

As Stacy said, books.
I bought a nice purse at Target.
A pretty coffee mug.
A massage.
Chocolate.

Books, of course.
And art supplies.
And this week, I found these beautiful reproduction antique doorknobs. They were so cool. But I just haven't let myself buy them yet.

I have a mani/pedi certificate from last summer that I still need to use (and one from three years ago!). I just never seem to get a sitter and schedule it!
Plus a Victoria's Secret and TJ Maxx gift card from Christmas...I did try spending my TJ Maxx one, but didn't find anything! But will go back, I usually can find something I like there!
Book (and Itunes) certificates WOULD be used up quickly though!

Books and coffee. The two loves of my life.
(Well, I shouldn't leave out my husband. I love him too. And my kids. But books and coffee...yes...)

Oh poo: everybody's beat me to it. Books, chocolate, and coffee for me too. And as I write this, I feel ill just thinking about all the gift cards and free-offer coupons I've got sitting around. Free time: I wish I could buy some of that. And initiative -- I'd go for that too. Though come to think of it, a spa pedicure doesn't sound half bad...

Green Girl - I thought about garden stuff! I'd love a new rake, actually, but that doesn't seem very indulgent.

Stacy - That's part of my problem - so many great choices!

PJ - Ooh, a purse...I've been carrying around the same one for too long now...

Lily - You should get those doorknobs - otherwise you'll have what my son calls "not buyer's remorse".

Kelly - If you were next door, I'd send my kids to watch your kids so we could both get our nails done! :D

Becky - Books and coffee go so well together, too...suddenly I'm in the mood to go to the big bookstore :)

Mary - There's definitely a trend here...those are three of my favorites, too. And if you find a sale on free time, let me know!

Suzie - The stores must love people like us. They make money and keep the merchandise, too.

When we have a little extra money, I like to go on a date with Hubs...movie, dinner, etc.

Flowers. Annuals. The kind that are showy and huge and impractical.

Does Target have a craft or silk flower section? Hmmm, that's where I would head. I have the opposite problem, I can't wait to use my gift cards, they burn a hole in my pocket. Thanks for leaving such a sweet comment on my blog, you're the best!

Brenda - A date night sounds great!

Bish - I like new supplies, too. I even like how they smell :)

Anne - Those annuals are soooo tempting. Sometimes it's a blessing to have a small yard...

Susan - I wish Target had crafty stuff! But then again, I'd probably spend way too much there.

ICQB - That's it. I'm going to See's!

Nowadays? Nothing.

The word "splurge" has left the building.

Louise - That sounds fantastic...ready for summer :)

Suzanne - Aw, maybe we both need to turn that around!

Oh Adrienne -- I do the same thing. I get a giftcard and usually end up buying toys or snacks for the kids. I'm awful when it comes to stuff like that. But if I really must buy myself something, it's usually music or books.

I'd suggest art supplies, notebooks/journals and pens, or books. All are available at Target and good fun for writers and illustrators. :)

Have fun shopping!
