Spineless

I don’t buy a lot of knick-knacks. I don’t like clutter; I do like being surrounded by objects I truly like. Just once in a while when I come across an object that speaks to me, I spurge. Even then it’s usually a small splurge.

About ten years ago I spotted a small wooden deer in a garden shop. It was such a simple piece of art: a little log body and head, with twig legs and antlers. It was so rustic and whimsical I had to have it. I put it by the front door.

I noticed our entryway was looking neglected, so the other day I tidied up a little. I cleaned up the potted plants and dusted everything, including the little deer. Then I rearranged the items just to change things up a little.

That’s probably why I didn’t notice right away that the little deer was missing. Yesterday I headed out for my morning walk. I passed by my newly tended potted plants, noticed they were looking happier already, and kept walking. I got about three quarters of the way down the block, and then I found this:

Somewhere there's an idiot who thinks a wooden deer head makes an amusing trophy.

Seriously, what is wrong with some people?

So sorry. I had someone take my garden globe . . .

Never thought we'd need to chain these things down-in the garden.

More than mischief, if you ask me. What good does it do to the thief??

OMG. That is just wrong.

On so many levels that is wrong. It just leaves you feeling so icky, too.

(Can you tell I'm a writer by that descriptive adjective? Sheesh...)

Oh, I am so sorry……

My guess would be young antics that are not very nice…
A few years ago, we had some mischief type things happen around our neighborhood …
What was even more surprising was the attitude of the parents when their children were caught red-handed. All of the parents except one had the NOT my child syndrome.

Oh man, that sucks. I hope those antlers get stuck in a place that will make it hard for the thief to sit down for a veeeerrrrrry long time.

Aw, man! That was not a nice thing to do!
We left the kids' caterpillar toy (the movable, truck like one that you can sit on) outside once. Bad move, it was gone the next day!
What is wrong with some people?!

Awful. Just. Plain. Awful.

I'm so sorry. Even without the head, I can tell it was a sweet piece of folk art, too.

THEY BEHEADED YOUR DEER?
That's really rotten. And criminal.

A few years ago the police woke me up at 3am to ask if anyone stole my pumpkin. Someone had and I was miffed, (at the pumpkin stealer and slightly at the policeman too) but I really would have been upset if it had been a deer like yours. I love those things.

I think the lady who never says hello on your walks just found a way to communicate : )

More than quoting I will paraphrase (as I will not attempt to remember the exact quote) the late Augusto Monterroso (brilliant Guatemalan writer)
"There are those who plant the corn and those who step on it".

Aw, gee...

Someone routinely swiped the L (for 'learner') stickers off our car when I was learning to drive. It took me a couple of years to learn, and I believe we went through about £20 worth of L stickers. It might seem a small thing, but it drove me absolutely wild...
