Be Merry and Bright

From the looks of things around the neighborhood and the blogosphere, I’m way behind in holiday preparations. In an effort to muster up some extra spirit, I spent my last class period doodling snowflakes and reindeer.

Are the decorations up? Nope. Cookies made? No, and most of the chocolate chips are already gone. Maybe we can eat the ingredients separately this year. Have I gotten my holiday shopping done? Bahahaha…

What I do have is a drawing of three birdies riding on a reindeer. Yessiree, I could cross that off my holiday to-do list, if: a) I had prepared a holiday to-do list; and b) that list included a drawing of three birdies riding a reindeer.

I think I earned the right to spend my last design class doodling. Yesterday my teacher informed me that in twenty years of teaching, I’m his first student to earn a perfect score on every assignment. Aha! It turns out I do pay attention to details.

On another note, it has occurred to me that Santa pulls one all-nighter a year, and he gets all the glory. I really don’t think the elves get the credit they deserve.

Ho! Ho! Ho! we could get the elves to go down chimneys too - so much easier? Great job on the X'massy card.

Keats - Yes! Wouldn't they fit easier? But maybe it's their one night off.

Congratulations on your perfect class score, Adrienne! You deserve it!!! Love the picture of the reindeer, too--I immediately noticed the birdies. Too cute! : )

Moms are definitely the elves in most households. They do all the work, no one ever sees them slaving away - or at least no one notices (it seems) - and someone else usually gets the credit.

I adore that picture. It would make a wonderful Christmas card.

And, I can see why you would get a perfect score, you're so very talented. As for the list of things to do, forget the stress and remember to have fun!

Yeah, I'm one of those "mysterious" elves who spent all day yesterday, (when I could have been painting and writing) doing the elf work.
But your portfolio including happy reindeer looks fantastic! I especially love your animals, the little birds sea creatures :)

Love the whimsey in your art, so I think you already have a touch of elf magic at your disposal. However, I hear you on all the preparation for this holiday. I get tired of making the list, and I never have time to check it twice. Santa has to get credit for thoroughness.

Thanks for the visit to the Write Game. I always appreciate visitors.

Bish is right. Your birdies on reindeer would make a beautiful Christmas card. I'd buy it!

And as for the rest of the holiday preparations, don't fret. Enjoy the spirit of the season!

Good for you, getting a perfect score, but especially for getting the kudos from your teacher. I keep hoping against hope, but my students always mess up on a detail or two.

I'm taking an elf break this year, partly because I'm teaching up until a day or two before Christmas. It's quite liberating to let others mess around with tape, scissors, and wrapping paper for a change.

I love the birds on the antlers - like a burst of spring happiness -what a joyful illustration.

(We seem to eat all of the cookies within a day or three after baking them...)

Oh, I love the picture! And let's all raise a cup to the elves!! Hope you got everything done that you wanted/needed to. It was a little hectic this year, wasn't it?
Cheers and Happy New Year!
