An Interview With Corfu, The Amazing Talking Bird

The kids are back at school today. Winter break is officially over. Everyone in the house seemed to have a pretty good holiday, except Corfu. That’s not too surprising, ‘cause he’s always a little grouchy. Don’t let that innocent look fool you. I decided to have a word with him:

Corfu, I know you stayed up late on Christmas Eve. What did you do when you heard Santa coming?

*Peep!*

You were supposed to be asleep, you know. So I’m guessing you actually saw Santa. What was your impression of him?

*Cheap!*

Now why would you say that? Tell everyone what Santa brought you.

*Squawk!*

That’s not true. What about that nice rope perch he brought you?

*Cr#p!*

Is that so? What do you plan to do with it, then?

*Chuck-it!*

That doesn’t seem very appreciative. What’s that I see on your shoulder?

*Chip!*

That’s what I thought. A big ol’ chip on your shoulder! Maybe your New Year’s resolution could be to work on your attitude…and your vocabulary?

*Bleep!*

I give up. Maybe next year.

If any part of your festivities were, um, a little sub-par… feel free to commiserate with the bird.

We had a couple of birds when the kids were small - for pets. I thought I needed to clarify.

They sat out on a perch but had a cage. They were messy pets but then they obviously weren't as smart as Corfu.

Corfu is a beautiful (and sassy!) bird! What is the origin of his name?

And yet, another wonderful post that makes me smile and laugh out loud! Thanks Adrienne!

Great timing too because today is National Bird Day. Happy Day to Corfu!

Kim - They are messy pets. And Corfu's just smart enough to get everyone to keep their distance.

Kelly - He's named after one of the Greek Islands - my husband and I went there years ago.

Suzie - What can I say? I got nothing. My next blogger might have to be the tortoise.

Rena - Ha! National Bird Day - that's perfect! I don't think I'll tell Corfu; it'll just go to his head.

Your story reminds me of a parakeet we had when I was a kid. His name was Blue Boy. He imitated sounds he heard. Thus he brayed like the donkey, barked like the dog...The only words he knew were "Dirty bird, dirty bird."
