This one is from Mexico City, a gift from my in-laws.
Next are the sun, moon, and eclipse we brought back from Acapulco:
And a colorful set of coasters with the same theme:
I also have some favorite critters:
A pair of ducks from my sister-in-law.
Cute bobble-heads!
And some puzzles the kids have outgrown. But they make such cute sculptures.
And here's an unusual conversation piece that was a wedding gift:
One extra-large rosary. It's about six feet long and weighs a ton. I keep it by the bed. If the giant-sized prayers aren't enough protection, I guess you could use it as a weapon, or an escape ladder.
Do you have any favorite souvenirs from exotic places...or just around the corner? I'd love to hear about them!

Hows it going? Is it as awkward as expected?
My mom had a rosary just like that! She loved it, but I think she finally donated it to the church. But I can just see you swinging it around weapon style!
Hi Suzie - Thanks for asking! Arrival is tomorrow...I'll have to get back to you on that! :)
PJ - Oops, you snuck in...
That's so cool! (About your mom's, not me throwing rosaries...)
That's the biggest rosary I've ever seen! It is pretty cool. I'd feel safer with it in my room too!
I love that rosary. I totally want one.
The vibrant colors of your paintings are SO similar to the colors in the plaques. You may have more in commone with dad-in-law than you think. Do try to relax and remember to HAVE FUN.
Those are great! I have a couple of cats and a lion I got from Mexico. That's a really big rosary!
I especially love the suns and moons and stars...oh wait, that's Lucky Charms.
:) but I do love the suns and moons.
Kelly - It is kind of imposing, isn't it? :-O
Susan - Isn't it great? I even looked for something like it online, and couldn't come up with anything. Now I'm wondering where it came from...
Bish - I noticed that, too! I guess it's easy to see what inspires me. And thanks, I'm sure it will be enjoyable (a well stocked fridge always helps) :)
Rena - I'm sensing you're a cat person...intuitive, aren't I? :D
Kim - Ooh, I love Lucky Charms, too!
I love the colors of those souvenirs.
And this is changing the subject, but I just have to ask, given your comment on my blog...
YOU HAVE A 70 LB TURTLE IN YOUR BACKYARD? Wow! Maybe he could wear the rosary.
I love the crescent moons and the cat puzzle, but that rosary is serious stuff and it makes my arthritic hands ache, just looking at it.
One of my husband's students gave him one of those Turkish evil eye protection amulets. It is huge, garishly oranmented, and impossible to discard (because who in their right mind would throw away an evil eye protector?). We've got good luck amulets from Japan and Korea, too, and a large wooden fish carved by a friend that I particularly love.
Becky - Yep, the tortoise is a tank. He could wear the rosary, but he'd probably just trample it like he does everything else!
Mary - Seems like you're covered in the luck department. Maybe you'll have to chance to pay the Turkish amulet forward...
Love your suns and moons - I had a similar sun hanging in my entryway until it got knocked off by hubby and son (they were moving a large item around and the sun was a casualty).
I once had a piece of trinitite - the glass made from the sands of the desert when the first nuclear bomb was exploded at the Trinity site.
I picked it up as a souvenir when visiting the site the first time they opened it up for public visits.
I kept it in my underwear drawer, of all places, until I got married and got rid of it, thinking, "Holy moly! What am I doing keeping a radiocative substance next to my underwear when I might just want to procreate some day?"
I love those bright, funky colors. My favorite souvenir is a scarab from Egypt. It's so humpy and plain, but so smooth and has pretty carvings on the bottom.
ICQB - So sorry your sun went down...
That's an interesting souvenir you had - fascinating, in a slightly creepy sort of way!
Green Girl - I always liked those scarabs, and I would LOVE to travel to Egypt some day.
The only souvenirs I have are from Walmart...grin...
I love the Sun and Moons you have...
